How do you get together for a constituent meeting during Corona times? Many clubs are currently asking themselves this question, including the 20 members and the team members from the advice center for senior citizens in Würzburg. Because suitable rooms were not available, they met without further ado in the parking lot at Café Perspektive, as stated in a letter to the press.
Günther Rinke, the 1st chairman from the previous term of office, led through the meeting. Renate Fiedler and Eberhard Grötsch were elected unanimously or with a clear majority as first chairperson and deputy. This means that a lawyer and an IT specialist are at the head of the senior citizens’ representative body. They are supported by the other members of the senior citizens’ representative body with diverse professional and life experience and are the contact persons for the communal bodies and the older Würzburg citizens.
The actual work of the senior citizens’ representatives is carried out in five working groups. Each working group has a thematic focus, for example health, communal and transport matters, life and housing in old age or activity in old age. According to the press release, a public relations working group was set up in order to be able to better communicate the work of the senior citizens’ representatives in the future.
Improving the living conditions of seniors

The senior representative is a member of the Bavarian State Seniors ‘Representation, which is actively involved in the Senior Citizens’ Participation Act, which is currently being dealt with by the Bavarian State Parliament. The aim of this law is to enable senior citizens to better contribute their experiences and ideas to politics, the press letter concluded.
