Senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka, KS Eshwarappa, announced today that he would not contest the upcoming state assembly elections scheduled for May 10. Eshwarappa, who has held various positions within the party over the last four decades, including that of state party chief and deputy chief minister, wrote to BJP president JP Nadda outlining his decision. This comes amid speculation that the BJP is delaying the announcement of candidates, with some suggesting that Eshwarappa may not have been given a ticket this time around.
