Senior actress Kiki Fatmala died at the age of 56 on Friday (1/12/2023). This news was known directly from the actress’s personal Instagram account.
“With deep sadness and heavy hearts, we would like to announce the passing of our beloved Kiki Fatmala, who was not only a loved one of our family, but also a friend known to many people,” wrote the information seen by detikcom.
“Kiki Fatmala passed away on December 1 2023 at the age of 56, due to complications due to cancer,” he continued.
At the end of 2021, Kiki Fatmala shared her diagnosis of stage four lung cancer. To maintain his condition, he had to undergo radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immune therapy.
Through his Instagram account, he also shared stories about the treatment process he underwent. Kiki underwent cancer treatment at a hospital in Singapore.
Lung Cancer is Often Found at an Advanced Stage
As with other cancers, the stage of lung cancer is determined by how widespread the cancer cells are in certain organs of the body. However, lung cancer is generally only discovered after it is in an advanced stage.
This condition makes lung cancer cases one of the highest.
“All solid cancers are dissected and can be cured, but 80 percent are found to be in an advanced stage,” said Prof. Dr. Elisna Syahrudin, PhD. SpP(K), Professor of the Department of Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FKUI) at a media meeting in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Friday (24/11).
Dr. Elisa explained that at stage four, lung cancer has metastasized or spread to other organs, for example the brain, liver, and bones.
“Treatment for lung cancer can be surgery, it can be radiotherapy, it can be chemotherapy, it can be targeted therapy, it can be immunotherapy. Not everyone has the same choice,” said Dr. Elisna.
Lung Cancer Risk Factors
According to the official website of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, lung cancer occurs when the growth of cancer cells is uncontrolled in the lung tissue. The following are several risk factors that can increase a person’s potential for developing lung cancer:
The habit of frequently smoking or exposure to smoke. Old age over 50 years. Genetic factors or a history of lung cancer in the family. Carcinogenic factors such as chemicals, radiation, viruses, hormones and chronic irritation. Unhealthy lifestyle factors. Air pollution. the surrounding environment is bad.
