Doha

Senegal finally confirmed switch to World Cup 2022 round of 16. It’s like a sweet gift for the second anniversary of the end of the legend Pope Boupa Diop.

Diop is a living legend for the Teranga Lions Team, recalling from his feet a historic goal for his home country in the World Cup.

Diop scored the goal in a 1-0 win against defending champions France in the opener of the 2002 World Cup. This was the big surprise in this event and also sent Senegal to the round of 16 in his debut.

Senegal, which at the time was coached by Bruno Metsu, made headlines and their players were also sought after by European clubs, including Diop.
