Sensation in the USA. Amazon is buying Zoox, the specialist in self-driving electric cars, for $ 1.2 billion. The startup led by an African, the Senegalese Aicha Evans, 51, allows the world number one in online business to consider combining sales with fast delivery by robot car.
The startup has so far raised $ 1 billion from notably the Canadian Breyer Capital, Lux Capital and the Australian billionaire, Mike Cannon-Brookes, boss of Altassian.
With a remarkable career, Aicha Evans has worked in several companies and held management positions. Director of strategy at Intel for 12 years, she joined Zoom as CEO in January 2019 following the departure of one of the founders.
Following the Amazon takeover of Zoox, online commerce leader said Aox Evans, CEO of Zoox, and Jesse Levinson, co-founder and CTO of Zoox, will continue to lead the team.
Before Intel and Zoox, Evans spent 10 years in various engineering management positions at Rockwell Semiconductors, Conexant and Skyworks. She was appointed to the board of directors of the Anita Borg Institute in 2016 and to the supervisory board of SAP in 2017. Evans holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from George Washington University.
