SENEGAL-EDUCATION / Communities and parents urged to encourage children to stay in school – Senegalese press agency – APS

Pikine, Nov 21 (APS) – Education inspector Maguette Diop, on duty at the education and training inspectorate (IEF) of Pikine (a suburb of Dakar), urged parents on Monday evening and communities to encourage children to stay in school instead of engaging in irregular migration at the cost of their lives.

»When children under the age of 15 take canoes for illegal emigration, it is a major risk. We call on parents, communities but also the authorities to ensure that children stay in school and renounce this risky adventure. We must ensure that our children can stay in school,” he declared.

Inspector Diop spoke on the sidelines of the Popular Education and Awareness Forum on children’s rights in connection with basic social services in the departments of Pikine and Guédiawaye (suburbs of Dakar). The activity was organized by International Budget Partnership (IBP) in collaboration with Save the Children.

According to him, “this community forum on children’s rights is an opportunity which aims to create synergy around education and the promotion of children’s rights whose place is in school”.

»We intervene in Pikine and Guédiawaye, where we note precariousness. We note that one in two households live in precarious conditions with a third of them having poor access to basic social services,” declared Binetou Diagne, project and advocacy manager for capacity building. on Children’s Rights at International Budget Partnership.

Several community and education system stakeholders, parents and various stakeholders took part in this community mobilization, the objective of which was to create a framework for dialogue and exchange on early childhood issues.
