Senegal crosses the threshold of 10,000 cases and 200 deaths

Dakar, Jul 30 (APS – Senegal crossed the threshold of 10,000 coronavirus cases and 200 deaths on Thursday, APS from the Ministry of Health learned.

Four patients succumbed to the new coronavirus on Wednesday, while 145 new infections brought to 10,106 the number of confirmed cases since March 2, date of onset of the disease in Senegal, announced El Hadj Mamadou Ndiaye, director of prevention medical at the Ministry of Health.

A total of 1,547 tests have been performed over the past twenty-four hours, for a positivity rate of 9.37%.

Twenty-nine of those newly infected were through community transmission, the remaining 116 being contact cases followed by health services.

Forty-eight patients, whose condition is considered serious, are in intensive care. Seventy patients were tested negative and declared cured, bringing the number of cures recorded since March 2 to 6,725.

The treatment centers for people infected with the coronavirus currently accommodate 3,176 patients.
