“Senegal Confirms First Death from Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever”

Senegal has recorded its first death linked to Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever. The patient was treated at the Dalal Jam hospital in Guédiawaye.

“Senegal has recorded a confirmed human case of Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever. The sample sent by the Dalal Jam hospital to the Pasteur Institute in Dakar was confirmed positive, the patient who was hospitalized finally died”, underlined a press release from the Ministry of Health and Social Action. “No other cases have been detected,” assured the health authorities.

Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever is a disease transmitted from animals to humans by ticks. The virus is harbored by wild and domestic animals. Transmission to humans occurs through direct contact with the blood or tissues of infected animals. It can also occur through direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected person. Transmission is also possible through the bite of infected ticks.
