According to L’Observateur, Senegal is not in the top 1000 of the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, which lists the best universities in the world for the year 2020.
According to UCAD’s Quality Director, Mamadou Sarr, this situation is explained by a lack of readability and not a production problem. Note that the Shanghai Global Ranking 2020 compares the “1000 best universities in the world” according to 6 indicators.
These include the number of Nobel Laureates and Fields Medal winners among staff, the number of highly-cited researchers, the number of articles published in the journals Nature and Science, the number of articles indexed in the Science Citation Index and the academic “performance” (the sum of all the preceding indicators) compared to the number of teacher-researchers and researchers.
