Despite the holding of the 46th edition of the César this Friday, March 12, French cinema is not at the party. All theaters have been closed in France for 127 days. In the Loire, four cinemas respond to the call of their Federation, which is organizing the operation “Open the cinemas” over three days from this Friday. Spectators from the Loire Valley are invited to express their support.
A Cesars ceremony without open cinemas
The paradox of having a César ceremony, but cinemas always closed does not escape Alizée Albert, director of Véo Grand Lumière in Saint-Chamond. But it does not have bitterness for all that: “It’s good to be able to put the whole industry and the French cinema sector in the spotlight for an evening, especially at the moment.”
With her colleagues from the cinemas of Montbrison, Rive-de-Gier, and Saint-Juste-Saint-Rambert, she takes part in the “Open the cinemas” operation impelled by their Federation this Friday March 12, until March 14, date of the very first closing of the rooms. “We want to put the reopening of cinemas back on the table for discussions with the government“, she explains.
Alizée Albert does not see what can block this reopening: “We claim that our rooms are safe places. Every spectator who came to the cinema, at least to Saint-Chamond, told us that he felt comfortable and safe. There were no clusters with us!“A recent German study shows that there is, for example, six times more risk of contamination in schools than in cultural places.
The spectators of the Loire invited to send words, photos, videos
His colleague at the Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert cinema, the Family, abounds. Julie Coquard visits her premises once a week to turn the spotlight on, “empty“, in order to keep them in working order, and also to keep morale with his team.
She said to herself ready for reopening, provided you have a date to prepare for : “it will be a big challenge for the whole profession to organize this recovery. Distributors, for example, will have to put in place a release schedule. We know that the beginnings will be complicated, but we remain positive. When we reopened between June and October, it took a while to restart, but we got there, and the spectators were there in October! “
The two cinema directors do not doubt that the public will be there. And to prove this expectation and this need for cinema, they launched an idea: “we invite all the inhabitants of Montbrison, Saint-Chamond, Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert and Rive-de-Gier, to go see their cinemas, describes Alizée Albert. We will have posted the support of our spectators on our walls.
