Its effectiveness against the new variants of Covid-19 must be made known: Sylvana Beltrones

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks has to report on the criteria to authorize the health registration of the Patria vaccine and send the results on its effectiveness against the new variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, considered Senator Sylvana Beltrones Sánchez.

On January 28, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced the approval of the Patria vaccine, a biological developed against Covid-19, in which research institutions, government and the private sector collaborated, coordinated by the National Council of Humanities, Sciences and Technologies (Conahcyt).

Through a point of agreement, the PRI legislator asked the Ministry of Health and Conahcyt to report on the budget used for its production, as well as to make public the clinical results of its effectiveness against the new variants.

He pointed out that it is essential that our country continues with the vaccination program against Covid-19, as a preventive measure, since, although the health emergency has already been concluded, this does not mean the end of the risk.

Beltrones Sánchez recalled that the World Health Organization advised that countries should take the necessary measures to move to a phase for the management and control of the virus.

For this reason, he highlighted that vaccination is one of the most important tools that the State has, to comply with its obligation to guarantee the right to health of its inhabitants.

He assured that the Government has the obligation to adopt the necessary measures to prevent, treat and control epidemics, and to ensure the provision of health services to all people under its jurisdiction, without any discrimination.

“It must be taken into account that the right to health is a fundamental human right recognized in several international instruments,” said the senator.

For this reason, he pointed out that it is essential to report on the results of the Patria vaccine and its effectiveness against the new variants of SARS-CoV-2. The point of agreement was sent to the Health Commission.
