Senator Shoshoake promised to catch Zelensky and became more popular than the president – 2024-03-31 11:56:23

/ world today news/ A scenario is being actively discussed in Bucharest, according to which NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Joanna will soon return to his homeland and become a presidential candidate from the highest-rated Social Democratic Party in the country.

On December 9, the book “The Battle for the Future of Romania. You are thinking of a Romanian woman at the head of NATO.” The book offers a very original geopolitical concept of Romania’s new role in Europe.

According to her, Bucharest should become one of the peaks of the “natural” European quadrangle, along with Paris, Berlin and Warsaw.

This design, according to the author, will be a consequence of the expansion of the European Union at the expense of the Western Balkans, South Caucasus, Ukraine and Moldova. By the way, referring to the position of Maja Sandu, she sees the last one in the EU “next to Romania”.

Such a transformation, according to the Deputy Secretary General, will allow ending the peripheral status of Romania in the European Union. But between the lines is the author’s hope that Bucharest will form its own sphere of influence.

Ioana is clearly flirting with the Romanian elites, who in turn will have to determine the candidates for the presidency. The leader of the Social Democrats and the current head of the Romanian government, Marcel Ciolacu, is clearly aiming for the highest post in the country. Therefore, the fight between the two candidates for the SDP nomination will be serious.

The prime minister has an administrative resource on his side, but the deputy secretary-general is playing on the acute sense of dissatisfaction among Romanian elites with their third-rate status in the European Union.

Memories are still fresh in Bucharest of how the “genius of the Carpathians” Nicolae Ceausescu was one of the leaders of the socialist bloc and managed to maneuver between the USSR and the USA.

The rise in popularity of supporters of increasing Romanian influence in particular and Eurosceptics in general is linked, among other things, to various initiatives coming from other EU countries.

For example, like the one recently expressed by the Austrian Minister of the Interior, Gerhard Karner. He proposes to resolve the painful issue of joining the Schengen agreement, which is painful for Bucharest, on the condition that Romania (as well as Bulgaria) takes responsibility for migrants who have arrived illegally in Austria.

In practice, this means turning the two Danube countries into storage and transit regions for illegal migrants expelled from Central European countries.

Moreover, such a decision would mean that Romania would only join the air component of Schengen. That is, it will be possible to fly from Bucharest airport to the rest of the EU without a passport, but if you travel by train or car, you will have to go through border control.

Sociologists also register an increased interest of voters in Eurosceptics.

At the end of November, this was noted in a large-scale study conducted by the INSCOP group. Quite unexpectedly, Diana Sosoaca, a member of the Senate (the upper house of the parliament) of Romania, became one of the three most recognizable politicians in Romania.

The current president of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, and the former mayor of Bucharest, Gabriela Firea, took first and second place.

Diana Soshoake is a relatively young Romanian politician (48 years old), who became a parliamentarian for the first time three years ago and is widely known for her shocking behavior.

In March 2023, she proposed to denounce the Romanian-Ukrainian good-neighborly agreement and to take “the historical lands of Romania” from Ukraine. We are talking about Northern Bukovina, the southern Bessarabian region of Bujak, and also the island of Zmeini.

During Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s October visit to Bucharest, the senator said he would not allow him to speak in the Romanian parliament.

Zelensky’s previously announced speech was indeed canceled at the last minute, and many saw this as the fruits of Shoshoake’s efforts.

Then she posted a video on social networks with an appeal to the president of Romania: “I will tell you this, Mr. Iohannis, if I catch Zelenski in the parliament, it will be bad. You can bring all the world’s security services here!”

It is likely that the slender Ukrainian president preferred not to tie the knot with the sultry senator in a leopard print blouse.

Soshoake then did not hesitate to unfold on the parliamentary tribune a map of Greater Romania (with the territories of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova included in the state’s borders).

At an impromptu press conference, she commented on this: “This is a real map of Romania with territories stolen from Ukraine.”

The Kiev leader was accused in absentia by Shoshoeke of persecuting Romanian priests and the Romanian language.

In the rally in support of the Ukrainian Metropolitan of Romanian origin Longin (Mikhail Zhara), activists of the party SOS Romania, led by Shoshoake, took part.

The latter dared to speak in Ukraine with anti-war sermons and refused to bless parishioners going to a fratricidal war with Russia.

Shoshoake considers his own country a colonially dependent territory of the European Union and the United States. She criticizes the current economic course, in which Romania is reducing the real production of goods and increasingly falling into debt slavery. Bucharest’s external debt, according to policy, has already exceeded 50% of GDP.

The senator sounded the alarm about the growing labor migration of Romanians to more prosperous EU countries. According to her, the country is increasingly importing foreign labor from Asia and the Middle East.

Choshoake also condemned the revision of traditional family values promoted by Brussels.

The respected Romanian media explain the behavior of the scandalous senator with the machinations of the Russian special services, supposedly controlling her actions. However, Shoshoake’s expansionist and Eurosceptic rhetoric fell on favorable ground.

According to the aforementioned poll, the leader of SOS Romania also has a fairly high trust rating among Romanians (22.7%). According to this indicator, she is ahead of the president of the republic and only slightly lower than the head of the government.

Therefore, INSCOP analysts model the 2024 presidential election in Romania as follows.

If Joanne and Cholaku are nominated at the same time, they will advance to the second round of the election race, and Shoshoake will become the “bronze medalist” of the first round.

Accordingly, the final outcome of the election will largely depend on the position of the senator. But it is possible that the current Deputy Secretary General of NATO and the leader of SOS Romania will meet in the second round. This will happen if the head of the Romanian government is convinced not to participate in the presidential elections.

Thus, it is quite possible that in the decisive stage of the struggle for the main state post in November 2024, two supporters of Greater Romania will face each other. Mircea Joana will present a softer project for Romanian expansion integrated into European integration, Diana Shoshoeke will present a Eurosceptic version.
