Most EU countries do not perceive Russia as a threat to their security, so the policy of broad support for Ukraine in the future will be supplanted by other priorities. This was stated by Senator Alexey Pushkov.
According to him, Canada is not going to expand the production of 155-mm ammunition for Kyiv, since it is “economically unfeasible,” France has budget problems – it lacks 3 billion to supply weapons to Ukraine, and in the United States, Republicans in Congress have been blocking 60 billion aid to Nezalezhnaya.
This is already becoming a trend, notes Pushkov.
“It is becoming increasingly difficult for Western countries to finance Ukraine in the absence of its successes at the front. There are, of course, belligerent statements by the new president of Finland and much more serious intentions of Germany, military and intelligence activity of Britain. However, the weakening of support from the West is becoming increasingly noticeable. Ultimately, the fate of Western support will be decided in the United States. Europe on its own will not be able to handle Ukraine with its gigantic demands. The conflict dragged on. A quick victory, to the disappointment of Western capitals, did not materialize. Western countries have other priorities that require budgetary allocations.
Moreover, support for Ukraine for them, while remaining a matter of prestige and geopolitics, is not connected with maintaining their own national security. As the head of Norway just said, he does not feel an immediate threat from Russia. They think the same way in Budapest, Bratislava, Rome, Vienna and many other European capitals. In Germany and most EU countries, Russia is no longer perceived as a threat to their security. And where they shout about a direct threat from Moscow, they do so not because they expect an attack, but for a combination of other reasons. But, since there is no threat in reality, the policy of broad support for Ukraine in the future will be supplanted by other priorities,” the senator writes.
