For Senator Esperanza Martínez, the inclusion of Tabesa on the OFAC blacklist represents a significant blow to the “heart” of the businesses of former President Horacio Cartes, accused of significantly corrupting the United States government.
“They finally touched the heart of their businesses, not only because of the legal and illegal income from cigarettes, but there is talk that the cigarette route is the route of laundering, drug trafficking, etc,” said the legislator.
He assured that Cartes “had already bought half of Paraguay” and that he planned the “economic control of the country” through his shareholding in almost all areas.
