Senator Katharina Günther-Wünsch visits young people during internship week: diverse insights into the professional world

As part of her summer tour for career orientation, the Senator for Education, Youth and Family, Katharina Günther-Wünsch, visited an EDEKA branch in Steglitz today together with the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice President Nicole Korset-Ristic. As patron of the internship week, the Senator found out about the progress of the project on site and had direct discussions with participating young people. The Berlin internship week offers schoolchildren aged 15 and over the opportunity to gain practical experience in different Berlin companies and get to know different professional fields for a maximum of eight days three weeks before and during the summer holidays.

Katharina Günther-Wünsch, Senator for Education, Youth and Family: “The internship week in Berlin is an important building block for giving young people practical insights into various professional fields and supporting them in their career orientation. At a time when choosing the right career path is becoming increasingly complex, young people need concrete experience and perspectives. This offer gives them the chance to discover new professional fields and talents with little effort.”

Nicole Korset-Ristic, Chamber of Commerce Vice President: “The phase of career orientation is often a challenging time for young people. In this context, the internship weeks offer an uncomplicated and at the same time effective opportunity to find answers to the numerous unanswered questions of young people. Companies can also gain very specific added value from their commitment by identifying the trainees of tomorrow today and binding them to their company at an early stage. The internship weeks are therefore a win-win situation for everyone involved.”

Hans-Ulrich Schlender, Project Manager at EDEKA Minden-Hannover: “EDEKA Minden-Hannover is taking part in the internship week in Berlin because we are convinced that early insights into the world of work are crucial for young people. This project offers us an excellent opportunity to discover talent and to introduce them to the variety of retail jobs at EDEKA. The effort is therefore worthwhile both for us as a company and for the young people who are in the process of finding their career.”

The internship week in Berlin started on July 1st, 2024 and lasts until August 30th, 2024.
It is being held for the second time this year.
