In recent decades, Europe has suffered under the weight of ideologically driven politics. A failed asylum policy and excessive pacifism have weakened the EU in terms of security policy, while anti-market measures have stalled the economic engine. Brexit and anti-European currents in Poland and Hungary are just the visible symptoms of a deeper problem.
Now is the moment when Austria has to make a groundbreaking decision. It’s no longer about party politics. “We are at a crossroads where we either continue to endure the political stalemate or muster the courage to set the course for the future together. It is time to bridge the political divide and find solutions that meet the needs of our citizens.” warns Harrer.
Civic reform government: The opportunity for Austria!
FPÖ, ÖVP and NEOS offer the opportunity to combine different strengths: The FPÖ brings clear positions such as in migration and asylum policy. The ÖVP would have the competence to advance economic reforms and secure Austria as a location within the European Union. The NEOS, with numerous innovative and dynamic approaches, advocate transparency and a fresh, liberal wind of deregulation, while at the same time maintaining the “middle” as a balance. Together, this alliance can provide a strong foundation for forward-looking reforms.
“This crisis is not about personal sensitivities! We need immediate reforms, and that means that Nehammer and Kickl have to go to the second line,” so Harrer. “Why not appoint a female FPÖ chancellor and an ÖVP vice-chancellor to actually advance equality?”
Harrer points out that Nehammer, as interior minister, could address the international community’s concerns about the permeability of the Austrian secret service. “Political responsibility means acting now!“
