Mexico City. The Senate’s Legal Affairs Department filed a criminal complaint with the public prosecutor for an assault at Terminal 2 of Mexico City International Airport against Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the board of directors of that Chamber.
In the morning, the Morena legislator made public through his social networks several videos in which he reported that while waiting for the departure of a flight to Monterrey, he was physically and verbally attacked by a person he identified as Carlos Velázquez de León Obregón, who also snatched his cell phone.
He said that the person was “a corporate lawyer who represents large companies regarding tax payments.” He said that this person kept his phone for several minutes and that a woman who was with him deleted the video he had recorded to document the assault.
In response, the Director General of Legal Affairs of the Senate, Genaro Vázquez Rodríguez, went to the federal Public Prosecutor’s Office to file a complaint against the alleged aggressor.
It should be noted that in the case of the judiciary workers and other protesters who forcibly entered the Senate facilities and sneaked into the session hall, where they broke down the door and damaged seats, Fernández Noroña decided not to file a criminal complaint, despite the fact that the insurance company of the legislative building will not pay for the damages without this procedure before the public prosecutor.
