Senate endorses the creation of the Pension Fund in general

Mexico City. The Senate of the Republic approved tonight the minutes with the reforms to various laws to create the Pension Fund for Wellbeing, after a confrontation between legislators from Morena and the opposition, in which some PAN members went to shouts, the insult and provocation against the members of the guinda party and two legislators were on the verge of coming to blows.

In the end, Morena and her allies managed to add the necessary simple majority and the minutes from the Chamber of Deputies passed with 70 votes in favor, 43 against and two abstentions, after four hours of debate in a second session this day, in that the Morenistas defended this reform aimed, they stressed, at guaranteeing decent pensions for workers who began to contribute after the privatization of pensions.

PAN members, PRI members, PRD members and members of Grupo Plural repeated over and over again that the federal government intends to “confiscate” 40 billion pesos from inactive accounts for more than 10 years that the workers have not claimed from the Pension Fund Administrators ( Afores). PRI coordinator Manuel Añorve maintained that it is “the theft of the century” and that the resources will go to the electoral campaigns. PAN member Julen Rementería also spoke of theft, of the use of money for other purposes.

From Morena, senators César Cravioto and Napoleón Gómez Urrutia warned that the opposition is defending the Afores, which are lobbyists for some banks.

“The fundamental purpose is to ensure that millions of Mexican workers who joined the workforce after the legal reform of 1997 have at least a guaranteed pension of 16,777.68 cents,” commented the president of the Social Security Commission. , Griselda Valencia de la Mora.

The opponents insisted and the PAN member Lilly Téllez, who from the first session tried to stall for time and accused President Andrés Manuel López Obrador of supporting “Santa Muerte”, began to pass in front of the Morena senators who were on the platform, with the poster that he has carried in recent weeks against the Morenista Citlalli Hernández.

He did so when the president of the Labor Commission, Napoleón Gómez Urrutia, was on the platform and highlighted that this Fund will prevent the Afores, managed mainly by private institutions, from managing those 40 billion pesos that are not theirs and for what they obtain. Profits.

The aim is to compensate, he insisted, for the 1997 reform of then President Ernesto Zedillo, which went from a solidarity pension system to one of individual accounts managed by the Afores, which in 2023 obtained more than 3 billion pesos in returns.

Téllez stood in front of Senator Gómez Urrutia, amid protests from his Morena colleagues and shouts and mockery from the PAN members, without letting the speaker continue. The president of the board of directors, Ana Lilia Rivera, called for order several times and the leader of the Mining Union also had to go up to speak at one of the lecterns that are on the board of directors.

He also did the same thing to Morena’s senator, César Cravioto Téllez, but he replied that “his screams and his shows” are because one of the Afores that “rides” the inactive accounts is Afore Azteca, which had to return 1,847 million pesos and has only returned 19 million pesos.”

For this reason, he insisted, “the shout of who represents the owner of Afore Azteca. “That’s where they pay you,” she stressed to Téllez.

Another former Morenista, Cecilia Sánchez, who is now a member of the PRI, asked Cravioto if he could answer what he did with the resources they gave him for the reconstruction of Mexico City and the spokesperson for the cherry bench answered that in two years and half in which he was commissioner of reconstruction, he rebuilt 6 thousand homes and left another 8 thousand in construction.

“It seems to me that you are dealing this blow to your alliance partner, Miguel Angel Mancera, and your other alliance partner, Jorge Romero, who did want to get involved in the reconstruction.”

He added that “there are traitor senators who would not have even won their poll if it had not been for Morena. “They take them to another group so they can hold cards. But in this 2024 election the people are going to put them in their place.”

Cravioto returned to his seat and Mancera arrived there to complain about the accusation. They began to argue and the coordinator Ricardo Monreal came to separate them before they came to blows.

The discussion began in particular, there are 47 reservations.
