The federal government and the Senate opened a space for dialogue and dialogue with the Judicial Branch of the Federation (PJF), with a view to achieving a negotiated transition towards constitutional modifications that will culminate with the election of judges, magistrates and ministers in 2025.
In this context, the president of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJN), Norma Piña, attended yesterday the solemn session that commemorated 200 years of the establishment of the Senate, a ceremony that took place in the old house of Xicótencatl, to which no representative of the Executive Branch or the Chamber of Deputies attended.
Piña was received not only courteously, but even warmly, by the president of that Chamber, Gerardo Fernández Noroña (Morena), who from the plenary commented: the Senate “expresses the most cordial welcome to Minister Norma Lucía Piña… It is a “It is an honor to receive your visit,” he told her amid applause from the legislators, and in the end he said goodbye with a kiss on the cheek, as if there had not been the harsh confrontation of recent weeks over the attitude that he then described as facetious
of the highest court.
Before the solemn ceremony, the head of the SCJN met with the coordinator and vice-coordinator of the guindas, Adán Augusto López Hernández and Ignacio Mier, with Fernández Noroña and other legislators, but did not want to make any statement about what was discussed. The minister left through one of the doors of the old house, straight to her Suburban truck, protected by a security cordon, without stopping or answering any of the many questions that were asked.
It was Fernández Noroña who specified that “there is a permanent dialogue between the head of the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez; Adán Augusto López Hernández and himself with Piña.
He commented that the meeting with the president of the SCJN was in the best terms, in the search to build an entry to dialogue and communication, and if possible, a transition agreement
.
–And what was achieved?
–We are moving forward; so much so that he accompanied us in this ceremony. There is a dialogue from the federal government headed by the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, and Adán López Hernández and a server are helping on behalf of the Legislative Branch. I’m simply saying that there is communication and an agreement to maintain dialogue, which seems very important to me.
When asked by reporters, Fernández Noroña clarified: I don’t want to generate any expectations that are not met later. The issue is to advance in a transition process of the election of judges
.
The Judiciary, he said, may or may not contribute to this process, but we will not move an inch from the election of judges, magistrates and ministers on the first Sunday of June 2025.
.
He specified that on that route, this Saturday the raffle draw will be held in the Senate to determine which positions will be elected in 2025, given that, according to the Constitution, half of the positions of judges and magistrates will be in contention. and the other half in 2027.
Not all Morena senators agreed with the invitation to Piña to that solemn session, and nor do they share the possibility of an agreement.
It is difficult, Mier commented, because in the Court there is a vision contrary to judicial reform. Yesterday’s meeting with Piña, he revealed, was cordial, even relaxed, and they even talked about if it keeps you awake
the current situation.
