Mexico City. The Senate of the Republic today declared the constitutionality of the reform to the Judicial Branch, after 23 local legislatures voted in favor of this project that will allow the popular election of judges, magistrates and ministers.
Of the 24 state congresses that submitted their decrees to the Senate, only the one in Jalisco voted against.
Only legislators from Morena, PT and PVEM attended the Senate session, since the opposition, as the day before, did not show up.
However, the hall was almost full with legislators from the 4T, who placed their posters with the legend: “The people command.”
Among those in attendance was Senator Miguel Ángel Yunes Márquez, who sat on the Morena side, along with Javier Corral and Oscar Canton Zetina.
The president of the Senate’s board of directors, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, declared that the constitutional process concluded after the recount of the local legislatures was done, which surpassed the vote necessary to approve the minutes that previously passed through both chambers of the federal congress.
The declaration was passed to the Chamber of Deputies, where the same legislative process will be repeated and sent to the Federal Executive for promulgation.
