Senate approves amendment to contract with Pfizer to receive donation of vaccines from the United States.

The Senate of the Republic approved an amendment submitted by the Executive Power to a manufacturing and supply contract signed with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer in order to receive a donation from the United States Government of 1,000,350 doses of those COVID-19 vaccines and 1,002,000 doses of diluent.

The initiative was submitted by the Executive Power on July 26.

The senatorial plenary session accepted a request from the spokesperson for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) senator’s bloc, Faride Raful, which was seconded by the reformist senator, Ramón Rogelio Genao.

In the letter, sent by President Luis Abinader to the President of the Senate, Eduardo Estrella, he explains that the first amendment to the manufacturing and supply contract was signed with the company Pfizer Free Zone Panama.

It explains that in addition to signing an agreement with the United States Government, they must modify the original contract that was approved by the National Congress, through resolution No. 116-21.

Abinader details that through the amendment some of the clauses of the original contract signed with Pfizer are modified to adapt them to the donation.

It states that it is submitting to the National Congress for approval the donation agreement that would be signed with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) of the United States Government to receive the Pfizer-BiotNTech vaccines against COVID-19 and its diluent.

The president emphasizes that “by virtue of this agreement, the United States, as well as its officials, employees, transportation service providers, distributors and agents must be indemnified and held harmless against all liability, costs, expenses and claims of any kind. that arise in connection with the supply, distribution, dispensing, administration or use of the materials in the Dominican Republic or otherwise ”.

It also states that the Minister of Public Health and Social Assistance acts on behalf of the Dominican State.
