Salvadoran karate is ready and excited to inaugurate this Thursday the Central American Championship (CCONDEKA 2024), which will take place in the Cuna del Mágico from February 22 to 24.
The Salvadoran Karate Federation (FSK) reported a participation of more than 400 athletes in the regional that returns to the country after a year and in which the hosts will have the mission of maintaining the restored hegemony from 2021.
In the prelude to the regional, today the Seminar for Referees and Coaches was held with which the FSK activated logistics.
The Costa Rican José Luis Vargas, referee director for the Central American Karate Confederation, taught the Seminar for Referees, while the French-American Patrick Jean-Claude Richoux, developed the Seminar for coaches.
“Karate is part of my life and I enjoy it, I get excited when I see two good athletes fight, but may the best one win. I have been to the last three world championships and the Premier Leagues in Mexico and Turkey,” said Richoux, who has four decades as a karate referee and two years as a world-licensed judge.
30 referees from different countries in the Central American region participated in the seminar, who received training and updating of the world Karate regulations.
“The World Karate Federation periodically makes some updates, changes, and we referees have to be up to date. We have a good number of referees and all the countries in the region are represented,” Vargas explained.
The CCONDEKA arbitration director also reported that during the seminar the referees who aspire to an international license were evaluated.
“El Salvador has quite a few good referees, with Central American and Caribbean, continental and world licenses, it even has a world judge from the International Karate Federation,” he mentioned.
Some of the topics addressed were changes in individual and team competition formats, technical criteria, scoring system and sanctions for athletes during the competition.
“It is so that we are all on the same page and speaking the same refereeing language. In El Salvador the conditions for this type of event are very good, last year we were here at the Central American and Caribbean Games,” he emphasized.
