In recent years, cultural venues in various countries are increasingly actively introducing accessibility services for people with disabilities. By providing sign interpretation, audio descriptions or providing a soothing atmosphere, cultural institutions try to create conditions so that people with disabilities, as well as their family members and friends, can enjoy the cultural offer together.
However, when thinking about accessibility, there is an aspect that is often neglected – it is important to include people with disabilities in the working groups of cultural organizations and regularly invite them to participate in events as artists.
If social inclusion and diversity are viewed as a whole, rather than in separate parts, a variety of creative solutions to this problem can be found. In this cultural management seminar, we will discuss the concept of disability and society’s attitude towards it, we will also learn more about accessibility and the introduction of accessibility services, we will evaluate how different departments of a cultural organization (administrative and artistic management, curators, communication department, producers, creators of educational programs, technical and administrative staff) contribute to accessibility.
