With a seminar and a graphic and audiovisual exhibition, the Executive Secretariat of the Chillán 2035 Bicentennial committee of the Municipality of Chillán will commemorate the month anniversary of the last location of the city, carried out on November 5, 1835 and which defined its current location by marking a historical-urban milestone, necessary to highlight to articulate a common vision of regional capital and strengthen the civic sense of citizens.
The mayor of Chillán, Camilo Benavente, commented that this initiative was born to project our city in a comprehensive way in the medium and long term. “The Bicentennial of Chillán is a date that will allow us to generate strategic proposals and projects that allow for transformation, face critical situations and advance in the construction of an image of the future agreed upon with local society,” he said.
In this scenario, learning about successful national experiences that allow us to analyze, reflect and visualize Chillán as a city for people is the main objective of the seminar entitled “Chillán of the future: a shared vision of a city for people”, an activity organized in conjunction with the Chilean Chamber of the Chillán – Ñuble Construction and which will take place next Wednesday, November 15 at 10:00 a.m. in the Claudio Arrau room of the Municipal Theater of Chillán.
The day will feature a brief introductory exhibition on the Chillán 2035 Bicentennial Plan, and then continue with talks by the architect, heritage expert Josefina Atria Mira, architect Juan José Calderón on digital twins of cities, architect Francisco Allard and the “Corazones de Barrios” and finally José Gómez, architect dedicated to urban citizen innovation, who will guide his presentation in relation to the four strategic axes of the Chillán 2035 Bicentennial Plan.

In addition to the seminar, from November 20 to 29, the graphic and audiovisual exhibition “Past, present and future of Chillán: a look at our city towards the bicentennial” organized by the Secretariat will be exhibited in the Obra Gruesa Room of the Municipal Theater of Chillán. “The exhibition arises from the need that the Chillán 2035 Bicentennial Plan committee has raised in the various sessions, to raise awareness among citizens about the local identity and urban heritage of Chillán, which stands out mainly for its modern architecture and its capacity to resilience after the destruction of the city in the 1939 earthquake,” emphasized Miguel Pino Quilodrán, Executive Secretary of the Plan.
