Semenistaja Dominates in ITF Singles Finals: Achieves Career-High Rank and Wimbledon Debut

• As already reported, Semenistaja beat the Romanian in the semi-finals – 6:2, 6:3.

• Heading into today’s match, Semenistaya’s record in ITF singles finals was noted to be very impressive: 12-1 (seven W15 titles, three W25, one W40, one W60).

• 25-year-old Jesse Anya was once world number 363, while 20-year-old Semenistaja’s career record is 182nd position.

→ At the beginning of today’s final, the host of the field got behind (0:2), continued with three successes (3:2) and did not hold serve again – 3:3. The seventh game ended with the American hitting the net – thus Semenistaja once again gained the break advantage (4:3). The Latvian tennis player played back three break points and fought until 5:3, but in the last cut of the first set she triumphed in all episodes – 6:4.

→ → At the beginning of the second set, Semenistaja waited for the American woman to hit across the court (break point), but then a long game ended with the triumph of the owner of the court at the net – 2:1. The Latvian player did not hold serve (2:2) and went behind (2:3), but won the next two games – 4:3. The score became 4:4, Semenistaja fought until the break point, but then she proved to be superior in close combat at the net – 5:4. In the tenth round, the host of the tournament first won with the help of the net (15-0), then the American shot out, Semenistaja hit the net twice (30-30), Anija also hit the net (first match), the Latvian player hit across the field (40-40) and combined an unreachable shorthand (the second match point), but the game ended with an unsuccessful shot by the opponent. In the second set, the favorite won with 6:4.

• An unusual situation: according to bookmakers’ coefficients, Semenistaya faced an increasingly weaker opponent in each subsequent round (coefficient for the opponent’s victory: 2.29 in the first round, 2.52 in the round of 16, 2.57 in the quarter-final, 2.98 in the semi-final, 3.01 in the final).

• Semenistaja reached the singles final of the ITF tournament in Latvia for the first time.

• The winner of the W60 tournament is entitled to 80 ranking points. Thanks to today’s success, Semenistaja will increase his points collection to 403, moving up to the record-high 172nd position in the world ranking.

• Let us remind you that Semenistaja spent the brightest week of her career so far – she made her debut in the Wimbledon qualification, defeated the former vice-leader of the world ranking in the second round and played in the decisive round, earning a prize money of 36,000 British pounds (about 41,657 euros).

• In Liepāja’s singles, Semenistaja is represented in Wimbledon’s white dress.
