Semarang City Government to Take Deeper Approach with Parents Refusing Polio Immunization

Semarang (ANTARA) – The Semarang City Government, Central Java, will continue to take a more in-depth approach to several parents who refuse to have their children immunized during the National Polio Immunization Subweek (PIN).

Semarang Mayor Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu, in Semarang, Wednesday, suspected that the refusal of a handful of parents at the Rowosari Community Health Center (Puskesmas) was due to a lack of socialization.

“Maybe there are some who haven’t been socialized. I will try (the approach). If the Semarang City Health Service can’t, we will take a deeper approach,” said Ita, her nickname.

He will also find out the cause of the refusal from some parents, considering that currently there is simultaneous polio immunization for the Golden Indonesian generation.

What is clear is that he ensured that the Semarang City Government continues to provide massive outreach regarding polio immunization, including the risks if children do not receive polio immunization.

“This is at the same time as vaccination. I don’t know why I refused. This is actually for the good of her child from the polio virus,” said the first woman to become Mayor of Semarang.

With this refusal, Ita does not want unwanted problems to occur in the future, such as the discovery of one positive case of polio in Klaten Regency due to incomplete immunization.

“There have been cases in other districts in Central Java. If something happens later, the government will be blamed. In the city of Semarang, there are currently no cases,” he said.

Previously, a number of parents in Rowosari Village, Tembalang District, Semarang City, refused to take their children for the polio vaccine which was held simultaneously starting Monday (15/1) yesterday.

In fact, parents who refused polio immunization had signed a refusal form provided by the Rowosari Community Health Center.

In fact, the implementation of the Polio Sub PIN in Semarang City is in accordance with the circular issued by the Ministry of Health, in line with the discovery of polio cases again in Central Java and East Java.

Along with the Sub PIN Polio program, the Semarang City Government is targeting a polio vaccination program that will take place simultaneously from 15-21 January 2024 to target as many as 202,989 children aged 0-7 years in the area.

The Semarang City Health Service stated that the vaccine stock received was around 250,000 doses so children from out-of-town residents who live in Semarang City are also welcome to take part in immunization.

“For example, there are residents of Purwodadi (Grobogan Regency), domiciled here, we facilitate immunization. Please come to the community health center near your home,” said Head of the Semarang City Health Office, Doctor Abdul Hakam.
