AKURAT.CO Responding to the spread of the Wolbachia mosquito, one of which is in Semarang City, which is a pilot project from the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) of Semarang City responded positively.
Although, the spread of mosquitoes to reduce the number of dengue fever cases in several areas has received a lot of resistance from the public, for example in Bali, some time ago which also became a pilot project for the Wolbachia mosquito from the Ministry of Health.
According to the Deputy Chair of Commission D of the Semarang City DPRD, Rahmulyo Adi Wibowo, he explained that the public was asked not to worry too much about the program to spread genetically engineered mosquitoes which could reduce cases of dengue fever.

“We’ll follow it first and then of course there will be an impact, because it can eradicate mosquitoes that carry the dengue fever virus. Look first, if the results can be effective in reducing the number of dengue fever cases, it will be beneficial for the benefit of the people in Semarang City,” he explained, Friday (15/12/ 2023).
However, this PDI Perjuangan politician also appealed to the public to keep the environment clean, especially areas that will become nests for mosquitoes to breed.
“People must maintain cleanliness, such as doing 3 M, draining, burying and cleaning, both stagnant water and places where mosquitoes can nest. If there is stagnant water, for example in gutters, or flower pots, or old tires with water, clean it immediately, more “It’s good to prevent it from becoming an epidemic and spreading,” he added.

Head of the Semarang City Health Service, M Abdul Hakam, said that the Semarang City Government (Pemkot) began carrying out the first distribution of Wolbachia simultaneously in 12 sub-districts in Tembalang District on September 8 2023.
This will then follow on October 23 2023 in 11 sub-districts in Banyumanik District, and in 16 sub-districts in Gunungpati District on November 21 2023.
However, Hakam reminded that the impact of the release of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes containing Wolbachia could not be felt immediately. The reduction in cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) can only be felt at least one year after the implementation process is complete.

However, data on dengue fever cases in Tembalang District for the period January to September tends to decrease at 51 cases, compared to 2022 with the same period there being 98 cases.
