Semar secures 120 tons of synthetic drug precursors in NL and Sinaloa

Mexico City. In a joint operation between the Secretary of the Navy, the Civil Force of Nuevo León, in collaboration with Cofepris, a blow was struck against a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel led by Ishmael May Zambada and 120 tons of precursors and chemicals for the production of synthetic drugs were seized in Monterrey, Nuevo León and Culiacán, Sinaloa.

Federal sources revealed that the seized substances could have been used to produce methamphetamine. The value of these merchandise exceeds 87 million pesos and was destined for the clandestine laboratories of the criminal group, specifically the faction led by May Zambada and his son Ismael Zambada, El Mayito Flaco.

It is not the first time that security forces have managed to seize chemical substances and synthetic drugs in large volumes in Nuevo León since, in July 2023, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and the Civil Force dismantled a laboratory for the production of methamphetamines, an event that was repeated in the municipality of Doctor González in February 2024, when methamphetamine, precursors and weapons were seized.

Intelligence sources indicated that Nuevo León would be becoming a place of interest for the installation of drug laboratories of criminal organizations since, its industrial and logistical nature, it is considered suitable for the supply of chemical substances and the placement of drugs in the United States.
