Exhibition Description

SEMANTIC FIELD Paulina Saavedra Individual Exhibition From March 3 to April 29, 2022 Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Clandestina Gallery Room – Montecarmelo Cultural Center Av. Bellavista 0594, Providencia “Language is not just one more tool that man possesses along with many others, but language is the only thing and the first thing that allows man to stand in the middle of the opening of beings. Only where there is language is there a world” Martin Heidegger From Friday, March 4 to Friday, January 29, Galería Clandestina invites you to a new exhibition, Campo Semántico, by emerging artist Paulina Saavedra. The exhibition will exhibit 5 two-dimensional works by the national artist that invite reflection on language and semantics where they investigate the conceptual delimitations given by the Royal Spanish Academy around the word

‘woman’. From there, an ironic and stark dialogue is established, thus trying to make visible the impact of language in the construction of realities. In the words of Paulina Saavedra: “Names allow us to generate a sense of identity and reflect personality attributes… It would be expected that through the designation of streets and avenues, recognition would be made of the great figures of history that have impacted, somehow, the course of the country. Problem on a scale offers the receiver the possibility of visualizing and dimensioning the low recognition given to women through their appointment in the streets. Of a total of 25,148 streets, only 1,378 are named after women…” The exhibition will be held in the Clandestine Gallery Room located in the Montecarmelo Cultural Center, Av. Bellavista 0594, Providencia, from Friday March 4 to Friday April 29 from 2022, respecting all health regulations and capacity. Visiting hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In addition, there will be an activity where there will be a Face-to-Face Meeting with an Artist on Saturday, March 12, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. This activity will include a conversation with the artist, about her work, a reflection on language and being a woman.
