Cleveland Browns (1-1) – Houston Texans (1-1) : 31-21
Miami Dolphins (1-1) – Buffalo Bills (1-1) : 0-35
Indianapolis Colts (0-2) – Los Angeles Rams (2-0) : 24-27
Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1) – Las Vegas Raiders (2-0) : 17-26
Carolina Panthers (2-0) – New Orleans Saints (1-1) : 26-7
Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) – San Francisco 49ers (2-0) : 11-17
Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) – Denver Broncos (2-0) : 13-23
The difficult learning of Trevor Lawrence (14/33, 118 yards, 1 TD, 2 int) and Urban Meyer continues. Everything had started well with a touchdown in Jacksonville’s first offensive series. But then, everything went into a spin, facing Broncos much more solid, experienced and diligent.
The defense of Denver quickly took things in hand to leave nothing more in Jacksonville. James Robinson (11 races, 47 yards) did find some gaps, but Lawrence saw his percentage of success crumble over the minutes. It is finally on a return of kickoff transformed into touchdown that came the other points of Jacksonville. But he was already too late.
Meanwhile, in his sober and efficient style, Teddy Bridgewater (26/34, 328 yards, 2 TDs) quietly led his squad to two touchdowns and three field goals. If Tim Patrick and Noah Fant were sent to the end zone, it was Courtland Sutton (9 rec, 159 yards) who made the biggest game in the air.
Denver started the year with two wins, with a game against the Jets in Week 3 and the opportunity to get off to a great start.
Chicago Bears (1-1) – Cincinnati Bengals (1-1) : 20-17
Chicago supporters may have just witnessed the advent of Justin Fields (6/13, 60 yards, 1 int). A knee injury sent Andy Dalton (9/11, 56 yards, 1 TD) on the bench in the second quarter, and the rookie therefore took over to lead his team to victory. The question is whether Dalton is seriously affected and whether he will resume the post of incumbent.
Because Fields, if he showed good mobility (10 races, 31 yards), was not the major element of victory. It is the defense of Chicago that made Joe Burrow go through hell (19/30, 207 yards, 2 TDs, 3 int). Constantly under pressure (4 sacks), the Cincinnati pitcher sent three interceptions in a row in the second half! The first was returned for a touchdown that allowed Chicago to take off (17-3). The third was followed by a field goal (20-3) which ended the match in the last period.
Cincinnati still offered hope when Burrow found Ja’Marr Chase (2 rec, 54 yards, 1 TD) for a touchdown (20-10), before the defense intercepted Fields. Burrow then found Tee Higgins for another touchdown (20-17). But Fields recovered, in particular by gaining a first down capital on the ground, to finish eating the 3mn39 remaining on the clock.
Even if they have gained only 206 yards in attack, the Bears therefore clinch their first victory of the season.
