RTX 3080, the latest graphics card Nvidia, was just beginning to be sold to consumers and the graphics card sold out instantly in most stores in the United States.
Various online retailers such as Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy, and even on Nvidia’s own site, the RTX 3080 has an ‘out of stock’ status. Even stock-checking sites like NowInStock.net can’t find the USD 699 stock graphics card anywhere.
Not only online sales, offline sales are also limited. There have been various reports on Twitter about the queue for RTX 3080 buyers and most of them have to go home empty because of out of stock.
One prospective buyer reported that many people stayed the night outside a store called Micro Center for two days so they didn’t run out when the GPU went on sale, only to find out that there were only 11 graphics cards available for purchase.
In another Twitter post, dozens of people were lining up outside the shop late at night. In the end, the store manager had to stop the line of 30 to 40 people because there were only 10 graphics cards available.
It is unclear how long the stock will be low RTX 3080 this will happen, even though Nvidia has confirmed that they have produced this GPU in large quantities and promised that stock in stores will be available in the near future.
Naturally, many people are interested in buying the RTX 3080. Although the price is quite high, it is lower than its predecessor – the RTX 2080 – and offers a significant increase in graphics performance, especially at 1440p and 4K resolutions.
The RTX 3080 is not Nvidia’s only new GPU, on September 24 they will release the RTX 3090, a GPU for USD 1,499 which is claimed to produce a 60 fps frame rate at 8K resolution.
While in October they will release the cheaper RTX 3070, which is USD 499. But if the more expensive variant is – RTX 3080 – Sold so well that it is difficult to buy, RTX 3070 should be more ‘magical’ again.
From the red camp or AMD also don’t want to be outdone, they will release a new GPU with RDNA2 architecture on 28 October. For information, GPUs with this architecture are also used on the PS5 and Xbox Series S and Series X, as quoted by detikINET from The Verge, Friday (18/9/2020).
