Selling baby diapers makes Takahisa Takahara a rich man with IDR 95 T

Takahisa Takahara is one of the richest people in Japan. Her wealth comes from selling disposable baby diapers to other personal items under the brands MamyPoko, Charm and Lifree.

Quoting Forbes, Wednesday (9/14/2022), this 61-year-old man has a net worth of $ 6.4 billion or equivalent to Rs95.30 trillion (exchange rate of Rs.14,891 / USD). This wealth makes him the fifth richest person in the cherry blossom country.

Takahisa Takahara is currently CEO of Unicharm, continuing the business of his father Keiichiro who died in October 2018. His father built the first Unicharm in 1961 where he began venturing out of Japan in the 1980s, including creating a joint venture in Indonesia in 1997.

According to a Japanese media outlet, Unicharm began introducing thinner disposable diapers in 2010 in Thailand. Because pampering in Thailand is often only used for sightseeing, not for everyday use.

The disposable brand Unicharm Pampers now has two models, namely a pants-style diaper and one that is sealed with tape on both sides.

From the leadership of Takahisa Takahara, Unicharm has grown. Nearly two-thirds of Unicharm’s $ 6.4 billion annual revenue comes from outside Japan, mainly from other Asian countries. Unicharm shares were also listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Many praised his success in conducting in-depth market research as a leader. Since he took over as CEO in 2001, Takahisa Takahara has visited 19 countries and regions outside of Japan in 2014 to see the manufacturing and marketing firsthand.

“It can be annoying to have a garment that goes on the pitch too often, but I need to see for myself how our products perform in the local market,” he said.

Takahara’s marketing approach is to adapt to the consumer’s lifestyle. Furthermore, to study the desires of consumers and pour them into products according to their needs.

The company has more than 1,300 employees and a combined group workforce of over 12,000 people.
