Self test corona: – Warns: – Not everyone is aware of this

– The progress is very large. When we look at the sales figures, it has tripled from October to November. The sales trend for the last few days is also rising. There is nothing to indicate that this will decrease immediately, says press manager in Apotek 1, Silje Ensrud, to Dagbladet.

On Wednesday, Dagbladet wrote that test capacity has exploded in several places in the country. In Oslo, several were sent home from the queue because they did not have time to test everyone. At the same time it is registered new infection record in the capital on Thursday.

The situation has led to a violent increase in the country’s pharmacies. Sales of coronary heart disease self-tests have skyrocketed this fall.

– Does not tolerate frost

Apotek 1 is among the chains that conduct self-tests, and which have offered customers the products mentioned in the mail – until now.

– As of today, we have stopped sending self-tests home in the mailbox. The reason is that various components in the test can not withstand frost and sub-zero temperatures. It is also stated on the packaging that the lowest tolerated temperature is two degrees, Ensrud continues.

– Are people aware that the tests can be destroyed in the cold?

– No, not everyone is aware of this, even if it says on the package. We always encourage you to read the package leaflet, and people are very concerned about this, but it is also very important that the test is stored correctly.

LONG WAITING TIME: The queue at the test station at Adamstuen in Oslo was over 300 meters long on Thursday afternoon.

– May be damaged

The pharmacy chain now encourages all customers:

– We have prepared all employees for this, and that they again inform the customers that you should pack the product on the way home. If you take the test in hand – in minus degrees over a certain period of time – the components can be damaged. If you go straight to the car, it should be unproblematic.

– If the test is damaged by frost, will you still be able to use it and risk false answers?

– I do not have a clear answer to that.

Risks false answers

Maren Hoff, pharmacist at Apotek 1, states that self-tests that are exposed to temperatures lower than 2 degrees over time should not be used.

– If the self-tests are exposed to minus degrees over time, this could affect the product, Hoff says in a press release.

Andreas Lind, chief physician at microbiology in the virus department at OUS, says that there is a risk that one can get false answers, if the test is exposed to cold over time.

– I would think that there is a danger of false negative answers, so even if you have a virus, this may not be proven. However, there is often a test strip that shows whether the test was completed correctly or not, Lind tells Dagbladet.
