Self-sufficiency in blood products: Traders donate blood to save lives

The National Union of Associations of Market Traders and Yaars of Burkina Faso, in collaboration with the Association of Traders Zabré Daag Nayi Nérré, and the Ministry of Health and the Fight against AIDS, through the National Transfusion Center Sanguine (CNTS), initiated, on Saturday October 5, 2024, in Ouagadougou, its 6th edition of the blood donation operation.

According to Ramdé Michel, the Secretary General of the Union, this operation was organized to compensate for a shortage of this product at the National Blood Transfusion Center (CNTS), and help save human lives. At least a hundred bags of blood were collected during this blood donation operation from traders. “Given the insecurity the country is going through, we decided to donate blood every year to save our FDS, VDP and internally displaced people. The national union to work to put within 54 markets and Yaars, monitoring committees, to help fight terrorism because we know that if the country is not at peace, we will be the first to suffer. The union also works to maintain social cohesion and to fight against all kinds of incivility among traders in the markets and Yaars,” he indicated. The technical advisor of the ministry in charge of trade, Ilboudo Seydou, welcomed the blood donation operation of traders, because, according to him, this social action is of capital importance in the sense that the blood collected will help save lives. human lives during this period of security crisis. “Blood is a precious commodity that can only be found in one’s own kind. We can only welcome this ceremony which is a patriotic act, and on behalf of the Minister of Commerce, Serge Pooda, I would like to salute the traders whose support has never failed us in these difficult times our country is going through. This blood donation will initially help the sick, but also help those who are lacking blood in hospitals and CSPS. But above all, this blood donation will help the FDS and VDP who are currently at the front, and who are often faced with injuries that require blood,” he declared.
