Self-regulation of the taxi in the Pamplona region

The taxis of the Pamplona region have started an internal self-regulation system, which in practice means that 80% of the fleet, 247 taxi drivers, will work every day, while the remaining 20% will not have the station operating, although it will be able to continue performing street services that do not depend on this connection.

The regulation, which affects the 309 taxi drivers of Teletaxi San Fermín, has been carried out after the collection of signatures carried out by a part of the partners and was approved a few days ago in a vote.

The regulation system involves dividing the taxi fleet into 5 different groups (according to the final license number), in such a way that each taxi driver has one holiday a week and one weekend out of 5.

It is, therefore, an internal agreement, so it has nothing to do, according to sources in the sector, with the regulations established by the Commonwealth of the Pamplona Region or the Government of Navarra.

The economic crisis derived from the coronavirus crisis is leading to a significant decrease in the sector’s billing, so this regulation seeks to alleviate the long waits that taxi drivers are making in these months of pandemic, which can last up to three hours.

As it was announced a few days ago, the taxi sector has suffered losses of 5.5 million euros in turnover so far this year in Pamplona, and that reaches 7 million in the case of all Navarra.
