Self-isolation will have to be observed after returning from all European countries – Latvia

As the incidence of Covid-19 continues to increase, self-isolation from all European countries on the list of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control will have to be observed in the future, according to the data compiled by the SPKC.

Previously, when returning to Latvia from the countries most severely affected by Covid-19, a 14-day self-isolation had to be observed, but since September 17, the duration of this mandatory self-isolation has been reduced to ten days. However, at the same time, the 14-day self-isolation requirement still applies to those who have been in contact with a Covid-19 infected person.

Similarly, the 14-day self-isolation requirement will continue to apply to persons employed in health care facilities, social care institutions and educational establishments who are in direct contact with other people, such as doctors assisting patients or teachers working with children. .

At the same time, there is an exception in this case: these people will be able to take the Covid-19 test on the eighth day after leaving the country. If the test is negative, people will be able to return to work on the 11th day after leaving the country. If the person does not want to take the test, the duration of self-isolation will still be 14 days.

In the future, self-isolation in Latvia will have to be observed when returning or traveling in transit through a total of 31 EU or European Economic Area (EEA) countries, as well as through Monaco, Andorra and San Marino, or a total of 33 countries.

These 31 EU or EEA countries include Estonia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Italy, Slovakia, Luxembourg, Germany, Romania, Spain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Malta, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Portugal, Iceland, France, Poland, Croatia, Austria, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Greece, Norway and Hungary, as well as Finland, Liechtenstein and Cyprus.

The Latvian government has decided to allow air travel to countries where the average 14-day cumulative morbidity rate in the European Union (EU) has been exceeded twice, while stipulating that self-isolation will be mandatory upon return from these countries. According to data published by the European SPCC, the 14-day cumulative morbidity rate in the EU is currently 94, bringing the threshold for a ban on transport from 188 per 100,000 inhabitants from Monday.

According to the SPKC, there will be no change from Monday regarding the list of countries where international passenger transport is prohibited. Prohibitions continue for shipments to and from the Czech Republic, Spain, France and Andorra.

Latvia currently has the lowest incidence of Covid-19 of all European countries where Covid-19 cases have been registered. Currently, this indicator in the case of Latvia is 7.6 patients per 100,000 inhabitants. Meanwhile, in the neighboring country Lithuania it is 31.2 cases, but in Estonia – 35.9 cases.

The highest incidence of Covid-19 in the European region is in Andorra, Spain and the Czech Republic. In these countries, including France, Luxembourg and Belgium, the figure has exceeded 100 cases.

For countries outside the EU and the EEA or the United Kingdom, self-isolation will continue to be required when traveling from Tunisia, Canada and Georgia. Meanwhile, among these countries, the requirement for self-isolation no longer applies to Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand and Uruguay.

As reported, the government has previously decided that people who live on the Latvian border (except in Valka) and go to work or an educational institution in Lithuania or Estonia on a daily basis can continue to do so. At the same time, when these persons are in Latvia, for example, when returning from work, the principles of self-isolation must be observed.

This means that on a daily basis these persons are free to go to Estonia and Lithuania, as well as back to Latvia in cases when it is necessary for the performance of work duties in Lithuania or Estonia. In such situations, the person must be able to present a document certifying the fact of employment.

The exception also applies to cases when it is necessary to receive childcare services or to attend a pre-school educational institution or to visit educational institutions, as well as interest education groups, if a person can present a certificate issued by an educational institution.

An exception is also allowed to accompany persons with special needs to an educational institution, such as schools and kindergartens, as well as interest education or to receive doctor-prescribed health care services that are not available in the territory of Latvia.

Persons will also be able to cross the state border if it is necessary to organize or attend a funeral.
