Self-care practices in times of COVID-19 in merchants in the central market of Chota

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine self-care practices in times of COVID-19 in merchants in the central market of Chota – 2021. The study had a quantitative approach, descriptive level, cross-sectional. 93 merchants of both sexes, between 19 and 59 years of age, each in their respective work positions in the central market of Chota, were evaluated. A questionnaire developed by the researcher was applied as a study instrument. The result was that: 52.7% of merchants presented adequate self-care practices, and 47.3% had inadequate self-care practices. No association was found between self-care practices and the age or sex of the merchants (p>0.05). It is evident that the merchants of the central market of Chota, in a large proportion, carry out appropriate practices, this could be a factor of knowledge about the danger of the disease, non-ignorance, and non-practice of bad habits, among others. It was concluded that: self-care practices in merchants present adequate levels, however, 47.3% perform it inadequately, and more attention should be focused on hygiene/personal care and physical exercise practices.
