Selena Gomez’s Battle with Lupus and Kidney Transplant: A Journey of Friendship and Survival

Selena has been in relationships with many famous men, including Twilight star Taylor Lautner, musicians The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran, actor Orlando Bloom, and more.

She is currently happy with producer Benny Blanco, with whom she attended the Golden Globe Awards.

A kidney as a gift from a best friend

In 2017, when Selena was 25 years old, it became known that the actress and singer underwent a kidney transplant operation. It was necessary to fight against a rare connective tissue autoimmune disease – lupus erythematosus. It should be noted that the operation did not go smoothly, that is, the artery ruptured and an additional operation was needed to create a new artery from a vein in Selena’s leg.

The underlying causes of lupus are still not fully understood, but it is known to be caused by an imbalance in the body’s immune system. It has several characteristic symptoms that Selena also experienced. Namely, pain in the joints, formation of rashes, fatigue, fever and others. The singer and actress announced on “Instagram” that she had an operation.

At that time, she also published a photo from the hospital in which she is seen with her best friend, actress Francie Rice. She was a kidney donor. Francie later said that she received a text message from Selena after the operation, in which she admitted that she was very “scared of dying.”

After the operation, the two were inseparable for a while, but in the documentary “My Mind & Me” released a few years ago about her life, Selena announced that she has only one friend in show business, and that is Taylor Swift.
