It’s almost ten years ago Hollywood star and artist Selena Gomez (29) appeared in the Disney series “Wizards of Waverly Place”, where she played Alexandra Russo – one of the main characters.
Since then, she has had great success as an artist, but on the TV front it has been very quiet.
Not long ago wrote among others Page Six that she had said that she signed away her life to Disney as a child, without it being clear what she really put in those words.
It may therefore come as a surprise to fans when it was recently announced that she is now returning to Disney Plus in the brand new commission “Only Murders in the Building”. With her on the team, she has the two stars Steve Martin (76) and Martin Short (71).
– You recently said that you signed away to life at Disney at a young age, and it’s been a long time since you were on a TV show. Did you have any reservations about returning to television after growing up on the Disney Channel?
– Definitely not, Selena Gomez answers Dagbladet, and continues:
– I was looking for a new show to do now, and anyway I am more than proud of the work I did with Disney. It shaped me in a way.
Steve Martin also defends the young star, pointing out that the quote she had given earlier was said in a funny, joking way, but that it was misunderstood in the headline in question.
–
Gomez herself states that she feels lucky and says that she could not have been happier to be a part of the upcoming series, which is about three true crime enthusiasts who are suddenly in the middle of a crime.
– I feel so happy and feel this will be a good timing for such a series – it will make people feel good. It’s interesting and simply fun, she thinks.
When asked by Dagbladet why she finally, after being mentioned for almost ten years, returns to a TV series, the 29-year-old explains that she said yes to the role because she wanted to play against Steve Martin and Martin Short.
–
– And that was something I wanted to do. I did not know what the next thing would be for me, to be completely honest, and I wanted it to be something that appeals to an older audience, while my sister can watch. This was not something I had to think twice about – I was really excited, she answers, and continues:
– I would also say that it was a plus to work with two comedy legends. I was constantly entertained and laughed all the time. But also the crew – it was nice to see Steve and Marty make everyone happy. It was always fun.
The 29-year-old admits that there were days when it was serious or they were tired, but had to get the job done. But 90 percent of the time it was just fun, she thinks.
The “Lose You To Love Me” singer’s decision to accept the series was probably also made easier by the fact that she is a big fan of true crime series in private.
– I love mysteries and have seen many series. When I was younger I went to crime con, which is the same as comic con, only for those who like true crime. I am definitely a fan of it, she says, and adds that she is more than happy to be ready for a season two if that is the case.
