Actress, singer, businesswoman – and now a billionaire: Selena Gomez celebrated her breakthrough as a teenager in a Disney series, later she stormed the pop charts (“Lose You to Love Me”). The business news service Bloomberg listed Gomez for the first time on Friday in the Billionaires Index, the list of billionaires – her estimated fortune is 1.3 billion dollars. This makes her one of the youngest self-made billionaires in the USA, reports Bloomberg.

In contrast to her friend Taylor Swift, who became a billionaire primarily through album sales and sold-out tours, Selena Gomez owes her fortune primarily to the income from her cosmetics brand “Rare Beauty”. The company, founded five years ago, is a huge success, especially among influencers and teenagers, also driven by marketing activities on social media: On Instagram alone, Selena Gomez has more than 400 million followers – only Cristiano Ronaldo (638 million) and Lionel Messi (504 million) have more followers. Gomez also runs a mental health startup (“Wondermind”).

“Selena is not just a pop star,” Stacy Jones, founder of celebrity agency Hollywood Branded, told Bloomberg. “She is a multifaceted businesswoman with multiple sources of income that contribute to her impressive net worth.”
