Selena Gomez has learned not to get overwhelmed by social media.
The 32-year-old singer and actress has a habit of telling her hundreds of millions of online followers that she’s going to stop posting, only to start doing it again about a day later.
She has now explained her new social media blackout policy to Vanity Fair: “I’ve learned not to say that anymore.”
Selena added that she took some time off from social media, which she enjoyed very much: “I loved it. I worked out. I took care of myself. It’s the first time I’ve taken a break. So I feel good.”
The star also noted that she wants to keep her year-long relationship with music producer Benny Blanco off-limits, adding: “We always make sure to protect what we have, but there are no rules. I want him to always be himself. I want to always be myself.”
The actress also hinted that if she and Benny were to marry, she would not follow the tradition of removing her last name.
She said: “I’m not going to change my name no matter what. I’m Selena Gomez. That’s it.”
In February 2023, Selena became the most followed woman on Instagram after surpassing Kylie Jenner.
The star previously indicated that she took a four-year break from social media by allowing her team to manage her accounts.
She told Good Morning America: “It’s changed my life completely. I’m happier, I’m more present, I connect more with people. I understand how powerful the Internet is, and in many ways it’s done the best for the world.”
Selena’s most recent announcement of her social media exit came in January following the 81st Golden Globes, when the actress told fans: “I’m stepping away from social media for a while. I’m focusing on what really matters.”
A day later, she returned to the network to promote a cooking video with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
