‘I’m just happy to be your best friend,’ says ‘Only Murders in the Building’ star
Selena Gomez doesn’t believe she’s at the level of inaccessibility that her famous peers Beyoncé and Adele are.
During an interview with Fast Company, published Tuesday, the “Only Murders in the Building” actress opened up about her status in the entertainment industry and how her fans have found her over the years. The celebrity shared that one of the things she says has helped her is that she’s not “unreachable” like Grammy Award-winning musicians.
“I’m not unapproachable,” Gomez began, in response to a survey about why women and girls identify with her. “I look at someone like Beyoncé and I’m amazed. My jaw drops. Every part of her is simply flawless and it’s so beautiful. I went to his show and was blown away. But I’m just not, and that’s okay.
Gomez’s resume builds on a career spanning more than 20 years in Hollywood, with his starring role as title character Alex Russo in “Wizards of Waverly Place.” She’s also one of the stars of the hit Hulu comedy series “Only Murders in the Building,” alongside Martin Short and Steve Martin, and she just made history in September when she and Rema won the award in the Best Afrobeats category with their song “Calm Down”. Not to mention that she is one of the top 5 most followed people on Instagram and is the most followed woman on the platform.
Nonetheless, Gomez explained that she is comfortable in her own skin and thanks to the fan support she has earned, adding that this is the key to her approachable brand.
“I’m me and I’m a little silly, but I also like to be sexy and fun, and I also want to do good with the time I have here,” Gomez said. “We need goddesses like Beyoncé and Adele. But I’m just happy to be your best friend.
