Select number of Control owners accidentally access next-gen version

A number of owners of the PS4 version of Control accidentally got access to the next-gen version yesterday.

With that, 505 Games seemed to contradict their own statement about the upgrade. Afterwards, it turns out that it was an error and that there is no intention to provide players with a free next-gen upgrade.

All ownership rights surrounding the Digital Deluxe version of the game have now been revoked, which is once again causing frustration among fans. On different out is criticized for 505 Games’ way of moving Control to the next generation of games.

Last month 505 Games indicated that only Ultimate Edition owners can upgrade the game to the next-gen version for free. In other words; people who have already purchased the game are not eligible for the free upgrade. After all, the Ultimate Edition will only be released on August 27 for PC and September 10 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Even later the publisher indicated that it would not reconsider this decision. “We spent months researching our options for the Ultimate Edition and this decision didn’t come easily,” reported 505 Games in a post on the website of Control.
