Convicted at first instance, the secretary general of the Union of Press Professionals of Guinea has just been sentenced to time in prison with a two-month suspended sentence this Wednesday, February 28, 2024 by the Conakry Court of Appeal.

At this opening, the Guinean trade union movement and several journalists traveled to support General Sékou Jamal Pendessa, general secretary of the SPPG who had been sentenced to six (6) months of imprisonment, three (3) of which were suspended. , and the payment of a fine of 500 thousand Guinean francs by the Dixinn TPI, last Friday.

As a reminder, in his submissions, the representative of the public prosecutor asked the Court to overturn the journalist’s conviction and sentence him to a 3-month suspended sentence.

For the defense, the secretary general of the SPPG did not commit any offense under criminal law. These lawyers asked the Court to overturn the first instance decision in all its provisions and to dismiss him for prosecution for an unconstituted offense.
