Sejong recruits senior expert Jeong Young-il, an ‘ESG expert‘

Photo = Provided by Sejong Law Firm Shin Sejong announced on the 13th that it had hired senior expert Jeong Young-il, an ESG expert, as the head of the ESG Center. The plan is to strengthen the capabilities of the ESG center.
Senior expert Jeong received a master’s degree in environmental management and policy from Lund University, Sweden, worked at Samjong KPMG accounting firm, and worked as a climate change and sustainability service partner at EY Hanyoung accounting firm. Afterwards, he served as the head of the Corporate Management Research Center at Jipyong Law Firm. We have provided ESG-related advice to organizations such as the Korea Accounting Standards Board and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Carbon Neutral Green Growth Standardization Forum.
The Sejong ESG Center plans to provide services such as ESG disclosure and evaluation, strategy, investment, and due diligence, led by center director Soo-young Song (Judicial Research and Training Institute 39th class) and senior expert member Jeong. Oh Jong-han, Sejong’s representative attorney, said, “We will expand the service area of the ESG Center and provide leading consulting by recruiting senior expert Jeong.”
Yulchon In-House Attorney Academy holds compliance system seminar
On the 12th, Yulchon Law Firm’s In-house Counsel Academy (IHCA) held a seminar on ‘Practical examples of establishing and operating a compliance system’ for leaders of the in-house legal organization. Following last July’s discussion on how to build a compliance system focusing on cases of global companies, this time we looked at practical cases of Korean companies’ domestic and overseas subsidiaries.

We regularly provide practical training programs for each career stage, taking into account the seniority of in-house lawyers. Plaza, ‘Changes and Responses to the Intellectual Property Environment’ seminar
Lee & Ko Law Firm announced that it had successfully completed the seminar on ‘Changes and Responses to the Intellectual Property Environment’. This seminar, hosted by Gwangjang Intellectual Property (IP) Group, began in 2015 and marks its 10th anniversary this year. This is an opportunity to look at current issues in the IP field, such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
This year’s seminar was held under the themes of IP trends, trade secrets, and dispute resolution. In Session 1, Attorney Jaewoo Kwak (39th class) spoke on the topic of ‘The latest laws and precedents related to technology and IP protection.’ In Session 2, Attorney Kim Hong-seon (37th class) presented ‘Response Strategies of Legal Practitioners for Protecting Company Technology’, and in Session 3, Attorney Jeon Ha-yoon (3rd Bar Examination) presented ‘New Strategies and Responses for Effective IP Events’. presented on the topic.
Attorney Kim Un-ho (23rd class), head of the Gwangjang IP Group, said, “This year, new revisions and issues have emerged throughout the IP field.” He added, “We will continue to provide an opportunity to introduce the latest issues and serve as a venue for mutual exchange between practitioners.” He said.

Ministry of Justice publishes ‘International Dispute Checklist’
The Ministry of Justice announced on the 13th that it published a booklet titled ‘Checklist for Diagnosing and Preventing International Investment Disputes (ISDS)’ and conducted an investment dispute prevention seminar for executives and employees of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA).
This checklist includes ISDS cases, response experience, and overseas rulings over the past 12 years. The Ministry of Justice plans to sequentially hold seminars on how to use checklists and risk management for the Ministry of Health and Welfare, National Pension Service, Financial Services Commission, and Korea Electric Power Corporation by December of this year.
An official from the Ministry of Justice said, “We will operate an effective prevention program to diagnose and mitigate international conflict risks early and prepare various legal support measures to protect the rights and interests of our government and companies.”
