Chaewoon Kwon, undergraduate student, Department of Software Engineering, Sejong Cyber University
Research paper presented at the ‘Korea Internet, Broadcasting and Communications Society General Conference’
Chaewoon Kwon, an undergraduate student in the Department of Software Engineering at Sejong Cyber University (President Shin-gu), presented ‘Research on ROS 2 efficiency in object tracking drone systems’ at the ‘Korea Internet, Broadcasting and Communications Society General Conference’ held at COEX from November 21st to 23rd. The school announced on the 26th that it published an academic paper on the topic.
This academic paper contains the design, implementation, and evaluation of a system in which a drone tracks a target in real time using technology learned through software engineering and AI/SW curriculum.
In particular, it received high praise for greatly improving the efficiency of the drone tracking system by utilizing the flexibility and reliability of ROS 2.
Based on these achievements, undergraduate student Chae-woon Kwon was accepted into the master’s program in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Sejong University in 2025, and achieved the feat of receiving a full scholarship and living expenses support during his studies. In addition, undergraduate student Kwon was active in department activities, serving as vice president of the Software Engineering Department student council.
Student Chaewoon Kwon said, “I was able to gain a wide range of knowledge by participating in various special lectures by experts provided by the department.” At the same time, “Understanding and Utilization of Location Information” presented by the Secretary of the Korea Communications Commission, “Cases of Big Data Use” presented by the Secretary of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office, and Professor Jongbae Kim’s “Lecture on Object Recognition and Deep Learning Analysis Using Matlab” “It gave me great inspiration in setting my research direction and career path,” he said.
Sejong Cyber University’s Department of Software Engineering has more than 10 graduates entering graduate schools at home and abroad every year, and continues to achieve various academic achievements.
In 2022, undergraduate student Han Autumn was selected as a fully-funded international student at Lakehead University in Canada, and last year, undergraduate student Jeong Won-geun entered graduate school at Sejong Cyber University, and students are steadily entering graduate school.
Undergraduate students participate in the department’s AI/SW development curriculum, carry out practical projects, special lectures by industry-linked experts, participate in national research projects under 1:1 guidance from department faculty, present academic papers, register intellectual property rights, construct project-based SW portfolios, etc. Through this, they are going on to graduate school and entering large companies.
Since its establishment in 2001, the Department of Software Engineering has trained experts in generative AI/SW development, full-stack development, mobile app development, blockchain, SW coding education, and SW project management with the vision of ‘SW where imagination becomes reality is the future.’ We are running a training course.
We provide 100% online classes and a cloud-based IT practice environment, and are strengthening practical capabilities through IT startup consulting, national certification preparation classes, and drone and autonomous driving research project clubs.
Kim Jong-bae, dean of the Department of Software Engineering at Sejong Cyber University, said, “Students are improving their academic performance through various projects and research activities,” and added, “We will continue to support students’ creative challenges and create an environment where they can grow into technology experts.”
The Department of Software Engineering at Sejong Cyber University is nurturing experts who will lead the future IT industry through practical, systematic education and abundant academic activities.
Meanwhile, the Department of Software Engineering at Sejong Cyber University will be recruiting new and transfer students starting December 1. Anyone with a high school diploma or higher can apply, and through industry-consigned screening, you can also receive application fee exemption and a 50% tuition discount until graduation.
If the recipient is a business executive or employee (four major insurance policy holders) or an individual business owner, scholarship benefits can be granted by concluding an education agreement in writing or via email, the school said.
