Smuggled foreign cigarettes

The security services at the Ministry of Interior managed to seize more than 40,000 smuggled cigarette packages of unknown origin in Alexandria.
Information and investigations by the General Administration of Investigations for Combating Tax and Fee Evasion in the Economic Security Sector, in coordination with the Public Security Sector and the Alexandria Security Directorate. Two persons intend to smuggle large quantities of foreign-made cigarettes of unknown origin in Alexandria Governorate.
And after legalizing the procedures, they seized a car loaded with (41,000 packets of cigarettes) of foreign manufacture, “smuggled, not clear of customs duties and of unknown origin,” at the Than Al-Raml Police Station.
The value of customs taxes, fees and fines was estimated at more than (three million Egyptian pounds), and legal measures were taken.
This came as a continuation of the efforts of the Ministry of the Interior to protect the public of consumers, tighten control and address the greed of merchants who collect cigarettes and withhold them from circulation to raise their prices because of their negative impact on public treasury resources and national income.
