Agents of the Air Unit of the Ministry of the Interior (Unagob), working together with the General Subdirectorate of Analysis of Anti-Drug Information (SGAIA) of the National Civil Police (PNC), transported this Thursday, 1,497 packages with drugs as a product of a seizure that was made in Coatepeque, Quetzaltenango. The evidence is equivalent to approximately 180 million quetzales.
The expert opinion determined that the entire illegal act has a weight of 1,761 kilograms. According to the inspection, the packages contain cocaine. The illegal items were located in two trucks located in the Magnolia subdivision, in zone 6 of Coatepeque, 34 kilometers from the border with Mexico.
Two men accused of being in charge of the shipment were detained at the scene, and were transferred by the authorities to begin the corresponding criminal proceedings.
PLAN CONTROL TERRITORIAL
According to the authorities, these actions are part of the Territorial Control Plan, launched by the Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez, on February 6 in border areas. This seeks to eradicate organized and transnational crime in the sector.
“This seizure represents a hard blow for drug trafficking organizations that try to operate in the region. The result of the coordinated work demonstrates the commitment of the Government and the authorities of the Ministry of the Interior (Mingob) in guaranteeing the safety and protection of Guatemalan citizens,” they stated.
