Seismicity decreases in La Palma with 8 earthquakes registered at dawn | Society

The seismicity on La Palma has been greatly reduced from midnight yesterday until this Friday morning, when eight earthquakes have been registered on the island of which only two have been located more than 20 kilometers deep.
The latest data from the National Geographic Institute (IGN) indicate that the largest earthquake recorded at dawn this Friday in La Palma took place at 05.47 hours, 39 kilometers deep, with an epicenter located in Villa de Mazo and magnitude of 3.3.

These records are produced after the largest earthquake episode in number and magnitude since the beginning of the eruptive process took place on the island of La Palma yesterday, with an earthquake registered at dawn 36 kilometers deep, which reached magnitude 5 and an intensity from IV to V on a scale from I to XII.

Meanwhile, the latest report from the Department of National Security (DSN) of 08.00 this Friday, peninsular time, indicates that last night the emission of lava has continued to flow through the same channel as in previous days, with little variation , although with a new overflow “from the lava lake at the top of the cone” of the volcano.

According to the DSN, there are already 1,005.80 hectares of surface affected by the lava that continues to expand the second delta and overlaps with the first.

Regarding air quality, it remains “good” or “reasonably good” in all seasons, except for “specific peaks” at noon in Los Llanos de Aridane, where it has reached a “fair or unfavorable” level, add the DSN.

The emission of sulfur dioxide (SO2) reaches “regular” levels in the municipality of Puntagorda, in the northwest of La Palma, but without exceeding the daily threshold, and the weather is favorable for aeronautical operations.

On the other hand, the Spanish Navy began yesterday Thursday to transfer farmers by sea to facilitate access to crop areas that have been isolated by lava.
