A young woman was found dead by firefighters, lying on the ground, outside her building, on the night of Saturday to Sunday, in Drancy, in Seine-Saint-Denis.
She was killed after presumably breaking out of windows to escape the fire in her apartment.
She had called the fire department, blocked by the flames, in the bedroom of her apartment, located on the sixth floor.
A badly extinguished cigarette
The very likely lead is that of a fire caused by a poorly extinguished cigarette by the husband, which allegedly set the sofa on which he had fallen asleep on fire.
A third, unidentified person was also present in the apartment. She and the husband were taken to hospital with minor burns and smoke poisoning, along with a third resident of the fourteen-story building.
The firefighters evacuated the 70 people present inside before controlling the fire which did not spread to the other floors.
